Thor Profit over Safety & Quality

With a seasoned senior level background in manufacturing quality control, mechanical engineering, new product development, design & engineering, I have investigated Thor Industries for 3 years in my quest to purchase an rv. I am shocked in my findings and can only warn others to do your due diligence before selecting a Thor product. For me I would never purchase a Thor product. Simply put, quality and safety are NOT found in the Thor products I viewed and others have who have widely published Thors horrible quality and safety concerns on the internet. I was going to purchase a Thor Tuscany RV. Huge safety and bad quality concerns that are universal throughout Thors product lines- No Way Thor.

Poor Workmanship; Inferior Components; Design Errors

2015 Chateau 26A purchased new from La Mesa RV, San Diego, CA, currently 17,000 miles: La Mesa RV Service described unit as a "starter model" which is ironic given quality was so bad it was necessary to return unit week following delivery to begin list of needed repairs. Soon gave up on getting work done at La Mesa RV service department & had repairs performed at San Diego Trailer Supply: sliding windows in living area, tank heaters, waste tank valves, forced air heater, air conditioner, various trim pieces, rear droop, excessive wag from passing semi-trucks due to excessive overhang beyond rear axle, DIFFICULT to drive in moderate cross winds, tank gauges inaccurate, shower head poor quality, BLM water tank vent ineffective, cabinetry falling apart. You get the idea. Be very thorough before committing to a purchase. The "platinum bumper to bumper" insurance is money wasted. We are currently adding air bags to reduce sag, & front & rear Roadmaster sway bars, & an after market steering stabilizer. We have already upgraded the tires and will add Koni shocks next year. The Thor 26A is a very expensive "starter unit".

Should rename the company to Thor Loser

We loved our 2012 Featherlite and so we assumed we were buying the same quality. The beds are absolutely worthless, bike rack fell off ( fortunately we caught it while not driving the interstate) handle on the outside just came off, valances are uneven, the pipe flanges allowed mice in. All of this happened on the maiden voyage! Stay away from this brand!! Camping World warned us against Jayco. We should have listened!

Anything Thor makes is junk

Bought a 2017 jayco 5th wheel 2 months ago and have only been able to camp in it one night because we keep having problems we are up to 20 problems to date. Water lines leaking drain lines not connected hot water not working slider almost came out of the camper. We and the dealer thought we had all problems solved and we went camping yesterday 5/18/2017 and made it through the night and felt we had made it. Went outside to enjoy the morning and there was water leaking out the bottom of the trailer. The dealer sent a service man out to take the bottom off of the camper to find another leake and he found dried up food and wrappers left in the underbelly. He had to cut into the next layer to find the water line and about 50 gallons of water ran out and the insulation was saturated. This is the third time this camper has been flooded l will be getting a lawyer. Jayco use to be good campers I have had 3 before this one it will be my last pure junk.

Awful.

I would complain (in writing) directly to the manufacturer. Find the correct department and send via Certified Mail , Return Receipt requested. No more calls.

State facts : date & place of purchase, mileage since, and a chronological log of events stated as clearly and factually as possible.

Document any expenses incurred.

State what (if anything) is currently wrong with the unit and what you want done about it. Again, clarity and facts.

You are entitled to be "made whole" in terms of your investment. Are you the original purchaser of the unit ? You mentioned it is a 2017. If so, you are certainly entitled to warranty consideration on most counts. You have not abused the equipment. I wouldn't bother with a lawyer because then you will truly begin to lose money. And there isn't likely much legal recourse at this stage of your problem unless you have followed most of what I stated above. *** manufacturing does not constitute fraud or larceny, just bad business. When you contact the company, use terms like "disappointed" and "frustrated". "always previously satisfied repeat customer" "hopeful" "assistance" ... you get it. Do not use angry words, promise to boycott the company forever or threaten legal action. That won't work and is probably counter productive. Good fortune to you ; these methods have proven successful for me on several occasions.

I agree with you at that moment we were so upset we have owned this camper 3 months and we have only spent one night in it and are paying for a camping package and have no camper. We have a meeting with the dealer again and they are having trouble getting in touch with Jayco for conformation that jayco will pay for repairs.

The siding above one of the windows was cracked from poor installation and the dealer fixed it and was not reimbursed by Jayco.

Jayco has a limit on what they will pay them for repairs or if they will even pay they didn't have this problem until they were bought by Thor. Thank you for your advice

THOR Freedom 22 problems form the start

I purchased a new unit in March of 2016. It is very obvious that Thor does not quality check their product before it ships. I've had everything from a non working heater, hot water tank, non fitting window locks , non working back up camera to the Dinette falling through to the floor because the opening in the benches was to wide. Never again will I buy a Thor product and Never again will I deal with camping World. They are useless when I comes to customer service. Camping worlds operation consists of the Sales Department fighting with the Service department. The end result leaves the customer wondering who is in charge. I will sat that the THOR customer service people are very attentive, the problem is that they cant seem to find anyone to fix their Shoddy work.

I agree with you 100 % ! Voice your opinion and post your reviews on the dealership that has sold you the junk units.

It may be a long battle, but negative publicity eventually goes around, and maybe? some good will come out of it!

No more Keystone campers for me!

Thor Industries - No more Keystone campers for me!
I bought a new 2017 Keystone Montana High Country in Oct 2016. I traded a 2005 Montana 5th wheel, which was a good camper, well made and a very comfortable camper. But, my wife, 3 pets and I were going to be living in it for a while, so I decided to buy a bigger one to better accommodate us. Since I had had good luck with the first Montana, I did not even consider looking at other brands. I bought a new one at Camping World. 4-5 weeks later, there was a storm, and I had a big leak in the middle of the night. We had to out out 3 pots to catch water. The floor, a sleeper sofa and the carpet underneath the sofa got soaked. We do not know how long this camper sat on Camping Worlds lot before we bought it, or how long it sat at Keystone, or how many times it may have gotten wet during storms, so we do not know what condition the ceiling or insulation might be in underneath. There was a lot of water that night. The water came out of the AC vent and apparently the light fixture, because the light cover was full of water . This is not the only issue we have had. 2 of the window shades stopped working within 2 weeks of buying the camper, the trim in the bedroom is obviously not made of real wood like the older Montanas. The trim is covered in wood like adhesive backed paper. The paper was not put on properly, not sure if it was cut too short or just not put on good or what, but it is loose, sticking up and what is stuck on, has bubbles all underneath. I'm sure in a year, it will all be off. The refrigerator freezer does not get cold enough. It takes 2 days to freeze a tray of ice and food never freezes hard, the black tank and gray tanks are mislabeled outside. I thought I was draining the black tank first and flushing with the gray tank, but I was actually flushing with the black water tank. Nice. The bunks have no ladder to get up on them. The only way to get up is to climb on the cabinet with the tv on one side, and on top of the recliners on the other side. You would think a ladder cost a thousand bucks the way keystone and camping world act. The living room cabinet has hookups for a washer and dryer, however, there is no way to put a washer/dryer in this cabinet unless you want to permanently remove the cabinet doors, because whoever designed this camper, did not take the slide out trim into consideration. The doors do not open all the way. There is also a kitchen cupboard cabinet door the same way. Camping World acted like there was a possibility for this to be fixed when we bought the camper. As I said, we bought the camper in Oct, had the leak in late November, we went home for the month of December, so, we pulled the camper to Camping world on Dec 6th and they had it until Jan 2nd. They assured us it would be fixed when we got back. The only thing touched on this camper when we got back, they had cleaned debris out of some kind of pan in the duct, nothing else was touched. We asked Keystone and Camping World if they could send someone here to fix it since we are living in it. We are 8 miles from Camping World. The answer was NO. They want us to pull it back in. Keystone informed us they were putting a note in the file stating that we would not comply and that we would be liable for whatever happens. What kind of company does their loyal customers like this. We bought from them in good faith, that they would be there to help us should we have a problem with their product. Such a shame to treat people like that. I stood by Keystone, always recommending them to friends. No more. I'm warning you all, you need to stay away from them. There are a lot of other nice campers out there, and I am sure there are some decent service departments out there somewhere, but, do your homework first. Look up the companies and read the reviews. I sure wish I had, because there are lots of disgruntled people that have bought from Keystone. I will not recommend keystone (Thor) to anyone. I will do my best to steer them in the right direction......far from keystone (Thor)

I have bought a Jayco Eagle 339flqs. And it to has been nothing but a piece of JUNK.

It has had water leaks from every water line in it. The side windows in the slide have all leaked water from rain storms, the leaking water line's mixed with the faulty electrical and started a fire. In the first month of owning this junk pile. The roof has had to be redone, the furnace has ben pulled out about 6 times, the water heater has been replaced.

And now it's going back in to shop to remove 2 of the slides. To reroof one and fix weather strip on the other. And all threw these problems i was kicking myself for not buying a Montana. But after seeing your comments maybe it's a good thing i didn't get the Montana.

At least Jayco jas been willing to make the repairs. But dont get me wrong.

I wouldn't wish a Jayco on my worst enemy. And the worst part of all is there all junk these days.

#1467656

well maybe u should have looked at it first and maybe u would have een some of the flaws

#1558467
@PissedConsumer1467656

Unfortunately you can’t see everything? Faulty Led lights on Jayco’s for example, water lines that are hand tightened at factory- that leak.

Mine occurred on my first outing. I then checked all my water lines and discovered that the cold water line behind the shower had a Linnie leak. The kitchen sink faucet has to be tightened 2 turns? So you don’t see everything and so much for Jayco boasting about quality!

Do they not have quality control supervision ? Or the fellow who posted a photo of all the wiring all bunched up and not secured properly with plastic holding clips- that rub together and cause a fire. Or the people that had there holding tanks drop out from under there unit onto the pavement while travelling. Only afew of serious problems.

So comments like you should have looked closer before buying??

Worse yet the govt. cares less and no regulations on this matter!

2016 Four Winds Thor 31' Class C

we excitedly purchased our first new motor home from sky river in Pismo Beach California in Nov 2015, our first year experience was taking trips not for recreation but rather trips to document numerous repair issues that kept cropping up. every trip showed new problems to deal with, our life has revolved around making appointments to take this piece of junk in and time to go pick it up with a couple of issues still not repaired more than a year into this ordeal. forget about help from Thor customer service they could care less about your frustration. there appears to be no quality control at their factory at least not with our coach. i would not recommend to anyone to buy any Thor product.
